Put simply, it enables Australian companies to receive a significant portion of their eligible R&D expenditure back each year, through the tax system.
It’s an Australian Government tax incentive, which aims to encourage companies to undertake research and development (R&D) activities.
The amount companies can claim depends on their size, tax rate and other factors. However, for most Australian startups and small to medium-sized businesses, it’s up to 43.5% of eligible expenditure.
To be eligible for the incentive, you need to be a company spending at least $20,000 on eligible R&D activities. Find out more about eligibility on the ATO’s website. We’re also happy to help.
